RENEGADE: So, Kaleidoscope Bakery, please talk us through your typical day.
KALEIDOSCOPE: Every day is wildly different at Kaleidoscope Bakery, some days I'll just be on my laptop ordering supplies and doing email consults with brides or corporate clients, but the days I'm in the kitchen are much more exciting! Baking and working with sugar is nerve wracking and there's often some creative problem solving to do when things don't go to plan (it's just as stressful IRL as it is on those baking reality shows!) but it's incredibly satisfying to figure things out and see it all come together. I work alone and in silence so I can properly focus and get a bit lost in the process, and I find it's better if I don't know what time it is as rushing a cake is a really bad idea, it decides itself how long it's going to take. I also don't take calls or check emails when I'm in the kitchen. I'm on my feet all day which I enjoy, and there's often late nights and very early mornings, since I try to make my buttercream cakes as close to the wedding date as possible, and of course there's a whole lot of washing up to be done! Saturdays are often booked for wedding cake delivery and set up which takes me all over the country, usually with my husband, and it's fun to see all the lovely venues around Ireland together.

RENEGADE: Whats inspiring you right now?
KALEIDOSCOPE: Right now I'm inspired by indigo prints, rustic Irish pottery and landscapes, which has lead to my latest collection of cake designs which I'll be showing at Renegade which is a bit dark and moody! Lately a lot of my customers have requested gold leaf, watercolour effects and bountiful rough iced cakes piled high with fruit and flowers so there's definitely a trend towards a more freehand style, moving on from the precise geometric pattens of the "chevron years".
RENEGADE: Describe a Kaleidoscope Bakery Bride.
KALEIDOSCOPE: A Kaleidoscope Bakery bride and groom are stylish and gutsy and do their own thing!
